The Recreational Therapy Foundation (RTF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that relies on donations to fund grants specifically for research in support of recreational therapy evidence-based practice. In addition to the grants provided for research, RTF also provides the Frank N. Basile Award for Excellence in the field of therapeutic recreation.
Donations received go directly to achieving our mission and funding our grants. Each of our board members are volunteers located across the United States and Canada. Our board members are passionate about expanding the field of therapeutic recreation by supporting research and evidence based practices.
In addition to making a donation through our JustGiving page and the links on our website, the RTF provides t-shirts as a thank you for donations that meet a specific amount. You can find out more about our t-shirt fundraisers through our social media accounts, or by messaging us through our pages.
If you’re interested in volunteering on our board of directors, be sure to reach out through our Contact Us page. We’d love to hear from you!

Recreational Therapy Foundation recognizes the need for quality research to guide practice in health and human services. Therefore, our mission is to promote evidence-based recreational therapy practice through funding research, educating the public about the benefits of recreational therapy, and providing grant education to clinicians.
We envision a world inclusive of all abilities, that ensures equitable availability of leisure pursuits through evidence-based recreational therapy practice.
The RTF partners with the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) to assist in the promotion and advocacy efforts surrounding the field of Recreational Therapy.
